SANTORINI PT1

After years of vicariously living through pictures of Greece on Pinterest and Google, I finally got to see it for myself. I found Santorini to be as romantic and dreamy as I had imagined.  I spent the majority of my stay in Oia. The village of Oia is the one of the most popular in Santorini. The vibrant blue domes among the picture perfect white houses set a spectacular contrast.

Greece has a large number of islands. Most of the islands are grouped in the clusters: the North Aegean islands, the Cyclades, the Argo-Saronic Islands, the Dodecanese, the Sporades, the Ionian Islands, Crete and Euboea. Officially known as Thira, Santorini is a part of the Cyclades islands.

TIPS

When to go:  Peak travel time is between late June and late August. I went in early September to avoid the large crowds and take advantage of low prices for accommodations. The scenery was still incredible and the weather was still warm.

Where to stay: They recommend staying on the Caledra edge to experience the best of Santorini. However, It can be a bit on the expensive side. You can find reasonable accommodations in Oia, Fira, and Imerovigli. This is where most people take the whitewashed exterior pictures that you commonly see on social media. I recommend booking way ahead since most places are in high demand.

What to do:  Take a tour of the famous beaches and hot springs, hike along the caldera, ride around in scooters or four wheelers, Participate in the Wine or Beer Tastings, Catch the sunset from Oia or Fira .
